FORT MYERS, Fla., Feb. 5 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Chico's FAS, Inc.
(NYSE: CHS) today reported that its net sales results for the four-week period
ended January 31, 2009, decreased 2.9% to $91.4 million from $94.1 million
reported for the four-week period ended February 2, 2008. Comparable store
sales decreased 10.9% for the four-week period ended January 31, 2009,
compared to the same four-week period last year ended February 2, 2008.

Total net sales for the thirteen-week period ended January 31, 2009
decreased 8.8% to $373.4 million from $409.3 million reported for the
thirteen-week period ended February 2, 2008. Comparable store sales decreased
13.0% for the thirteen-week period ended January 31, 2009, compared to the
same thirteen-week period last year ended February 2, 2008.
For the fifty-two weeks ended January 31, 2009, total net sales decreased
7.7% to $1.582 billion from $1.714 billion reported for the fifty-two week
period ended February 2, 2008. Comparable store sales decreased 15.1% for the
fifty-two week period ended January 31, 2009, compared to the fifty-two week
period last year ended February 2, 2008.
Beginning with the first quarter of fiscal 2009, the Company will begin
reporting consolidated sales and comparable store sales on a quarterly basis,
and will discontinue reporting consolidated sales and comparable store sales
on a monthly basis. The sales results for the first quarter ending May 2, 2009
are presently scheduled to be reported on Thursday, May 7, 2009, with
operating results for the same period scheduled to be released May 27, 2009.
The Company is a specialty retailer of private branded, sophisticated,
casual-to-dressy clothing, intimates, complementary accessories, and other
non-clothing gift items. The Company operates 1,076 women's specialty stores,
including stores in 49 states, the District of Columbia, the U.S. Virgin
Islands and Puerto Rico operating under the Chico's, White House | Black
Market and Soma Intimates names. The Company has 619 Chico's front-line
stores, 41 Chico's outlet stores, 328 White House | Black Market front-line
stores, 17 White House | Black Market outlet stores, 70 Soma Intimates front-
