FORT MYERS, Fla., April 6, 2006 /PRNewswire-FirstCall via COMTEX News Network/ -- Chico's FAS, Inc. (NYSE: CHS) today reported March sales results for the five-week period ended April 1, 2006, increased 21.9% to $157.3 million from $129.0 million reported for the prior year's five-week period ended April 2, 2005. Comparable store sales for the Company-owned stores increased 8.4% for the five-week period ended April 1, 2006, compared to the same five-week period last year.

For the nine weeks ended April 1, 2006, total sales increased 20.4% to $256 million from $213 million for the same period a year ago. Comparable store sales for the Company-owned stores increased 7.3% for the nine-week period compared to the same nine-week period last year.

The Company is a specialty retailer of private label, sophisticated, casual-to-dressy clothing, intimates, complementary accessories, and other non-clothing gift items. The Company operates 789 women's specialty stores, including stores in 47 states, the District of Columbia, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico operating under the Chico's, White House | Black Market, Soma by Chico's and Fitigues names. The Company owns 505 Chico's front-line stores, 31 Chico's outlet stores, 201 White House | Black Market front-line stores, 8 White House | Black Market outlet stores, 18 Soma by Chico's stores, 11 Fitigues front-line stores and 1 Fitigues outlet store; franchisees own and operate 14 Chico's stores.
